My Kindy has developed our Kindergarten Program based on The Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline. The Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline is based on the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF) and embraces the inclusive vision that “all children experience learning that is engaging and builds success for life”.
While the EYLF focuses on children from birth to five years, the Queensland Kindergarten learning Guideline aims to specifically enrich children’s learning in the Kindergarten Year. In Queensland, the Kindergarten Year is the year before the Preparatory Year of schooling. Throughout the Kindergarten Year, children’s right to experience the joy of childhood is fundamental and learning is promoted through play, and emergent and planned learning experiences and interactions.
The Queensland Learning Guideline has five Learning and Development Areas. These include:-
Identity – Children have a strong sense of identity
Connectedness – Children are connected with and contribute to their world
Wellbeing – Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
Active Learning – Children are confident and involved learners
Communicating – Children are effective communicators
Our Kindergarten Teachers and Educators plan learning experiences that are relevant to each child’s interests, experiences and needs. Children are provided with opportunities to express their ideas and options, make choices, share decision making and be involved in the reflection process.
A ‘Transition Statement’ will be prepared for each child at the completion of the Kindergarten Program. Transition statements are created to build a shared and accurate picture of each child’s learning at the end of the Kindergarten year. They include information about learning in each of the five learning and development areas. Transition statements help each child’s parents/carers, teachers and other partners plan ways to support the child’s transition into school.
Our Kindergarten Program will help your child make friends, develop a love of learning and be better prepared to start school!
